Uplifting the Poor through the Tuloy-Aral

"TAP Parents Orientation - June 14, 2008"
There is actually only one philosophy of education, the formation of the young for their place in society (Arcilla, 2007). Since education consists essentially in preparing man for what he must be and for what he must do here below in order to attain the sublime end for which he was created, it is clear that there can be no true education which is not wholly directed to man’s last end.

It is in this context that the MINSAC Cagayan de Oro (CDO) City Tuloy-Aral was conceptualized and implemented in Talakag, Bukidnon.

This program started in 2007 as continuation of the Balik-Aral Program. The 25 recipients of the program are all women coming from the different barangays in Talakag. There were eight (8) graduates on March 27, 2008 and one of them graduated valedictorian.

“Distribution of supplies during the TAP Orientation”

The Tuloy-Aral provided the following for the grantees: tuition fees, school supplies, school uniforms and value formation inputs. To develop volunteerism and confidence among the partners, they were exposed to Sunday mass choir and they were encouraged to actively participate in all curricular and co-curricular activities.

Their parents were also given financial assistance through livelihood projects. They are active members of the Community-Based Alternative Savings System (CBASS) in line with the program’s mission to uplift the lives of the poor through self-help methods. The whole family benefited from this program since everyone in the family was encouraged to join various bonding activities like family gatherings, parent’s regular meetings, recollections and home visitations. As the basic unit of society the family was the core of the program implementation.

The program concretizes the basic philosophy of education namely – the formation of the young for their place in society and Venerable Ignacia’s legacy of empowering indigenous women. This is a concrete manifestation of the MINSAC’s mission of uplifting the dignity of the Filipino people.
